Driving without a number plate is illegal and can result in fines and penalties. In Dubai, if a vehicle is found to be operating without a number plate, the driver can face fines of up to 1000 AED and may also have their vehicle impounded. It is important to note that a missing or damaged number plate should be replaced as soon as possible to avoid legal issues.

Required Documents

The first step in applying for a lost number plate in Dubai is to gather the required documents. These include:

  • Original Emirates ID to update the information in case of an expired ID (for individuals).
  • Official letter from the company
  • Plates of the vehicle to hand over in case of damage
  • Report from the police if the plates were lost.

Reporting a Missing Number Plate to Dubai Police

Before applying for a duplicate number plate to the RTA Dubai, it is necessary to report the missing number plate to the Dubai police. You can do it online to report a missing number plate by filling out the details regarding your lost plate number.

The fee for reporting a lost vehicle number plate to the Dubai police is 70 AED. It’s important to provide a valid email address so you can receive a reply.

Once you have reported the missing number plate to the Dubai police, you can proceed with getting a replacement from the RTA Dubai.

Note: If the number plate is registered with the Dubai RTA but was lost in another Emirate, an investigation report from the police station of that Emirate may be required before applying for a replacement.

Pay the Fees

The fees associated with getting a replacement number plate in Dubai vary depending on your vehicle type and the number plate size. The RTA charges a fee of

  • 35 AED for a short plate,

  • 500 AED for a luxury plate.
  • Additionally, if you are looking for an Expo-branded plate, the fee is 100 AED, provided that the second plate is identical to the initial one.

It’s important to note that, in case the service fee is more than 50 AED, a 20 AED Knowledge and Innovation fee will be added. If you have lost only the back plate, the sticker fee is 10 AED.

It’s worth noting that when losing license plates, customers must replace them with the new plate designs and pay the sticker fees and the Knowledge and Innovation fees again.

The process is instant if you apply through the RTA website. Fill this form and pay the fee.
