RTA Approved Eye Test in Sharjah: Centers, Cost & Process
RTA-approved eye test centers in Sharjah are licensed optical centers where you complete the mandatory vision test for a Sharjah driving license. The test checks your visual acuity, colour vision, and peripheral vision, costs about AED 100 to AED 150, takes 10 to 15 minutes, and the result uploads directly to the Sharjah Police system.

You need this eye test for a new license and for every renewal. Sharjah Police, through its Traffic and Licensing Department, issues the license, so the report must come from an optical center it approves. Drivers often call it the RTA eye test because RTA is Dubai's authority, but in Sharjah the license and the approved centers sit under Sharjah Police.
Where can you take the eye test in Sharjah?
Most approved centers are optical chains inside Sharjah's malls and along its main streets. You will find approved branches in Sahara Centre, City Centre Sharjah, Mega Mall and Safeer Mall, across the Al Nahda, Al Qasimia and Al Majaz districts, and along King Faisal Street and Al Wahda Street. The table below lists the main Sharjah Police approved opticians and where to find them.
| Center | Location in Sharjah | Phone |
| Al Jaber Optical | Sahara Centre, Al Nahda Street | +971 6 531 5353 |
| Al Jaber Optical | City Centre Sharjah, Al Wahda Road | +971 6 574 2574 |
| Yateem Optician | Safeer Mall, Al Nahda Street | +971 6 531 6822 |
| Magrabi Optical | Al Qasimi Street, Al Majaz 3 | +971 6 537 7777 |
| Barakat Optical | Branches across Sharjah | Confirm with branch |
| Grand Optics | Sahara Centre and City Centre Sharjah | Confirm with branch |
| Rivoli EyeZone | Sharjah malls, online booking | Confirm with branch |
| Vision Express | Al Zahra | Confirm with branch |
| Al Falah Optics | Al Nahda, Al Wahda Street, Industrial Area | Confirm with branch |
Most centers accept walk-ins, but a phone call or online booking avoids waiting at peak hours. Confirm the branch is currently approved for the Sharjah driving license eye test before you go, because hours and phone numbers change.
How much does the eye test cost in Sharjah?
The eye test costs about AED 100 to AED 150 in 2026. Most of that is a fixed authority charge of around AED 120, while the optician keeps a small service fee of about AED 30. Because the authority portion is fixed, the price barely differs between approved centers, so pick the most convenient branch rather than the cheapest one.
What documents do you need for the eye test?
Bring the following with you to the center:
- Original Emirates ID.
- Your current or expired driving license, if you are renewing.
- Passport copy and residency visa, for expatriate residents.
- The glasses or contact lenses you normally wear, so the result reflects your corrected vision.
You can pass the test while wearing glasses or lenses. If you do, the license is issued with a condition that you must wear them whenever you drive.
How long is the eye test valid?
The eye test report must be current when you submit your license application. Approved centers commonly treat a result as valid for up to three years, but an older report can be rejected, so book the test close to when you apply or renew. The center uploads your result to the Sharjah Police system, which means you do not need to carry a printed copy.
Is the eye test required for license renewal?
Yes. A vision test is mandatory every time you renew a Sharjah driving license, not only for a first application. Eye health changes with age, so the renewal test confirms your vision still meets the standard. Our guide to Sharjah driving license renewal covers the full renewal steps and fees.
Is a Sharjah eye test accepted in other emirates?
Approval is granted per emirate, but the large optical chains hold approvals from more than one authority. Yateem Optician and Al Jaber Optical, for example, are approved by Dubai RTA, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah Police, and each branch uploads the result to the authority for the emirate where you apply. As a rule, take the test at an approved branch in the emirate that issues your license, and confirm acceptance with the center if you plan to use the result elsewhere.
How is the eye test done?
The test is quick and non-invasive. An optometrist checks three things:
- Visual acuity, by reading letters on a chart at a set distance.
- Colour vision, to confirm you can tell traffic signal colours apart.
- Peripheral vision, to measure how wide your field of view is.
The whole check takes 10 to 15 minutes. Once you pass, the center records the result digitally and you can continue your license application or renewal.
